Cosplay Craftsmanship Send all entries to cody-powers.d@connecticon.org. General Information
The deadline for preregistering for the Craftsmanship contest is June 9th, 2010. Please download, fill out, save and return via email to the Cosplay Coordinator by that time. Entries received after the deadline will be sent back. Pre-registration is strongly suggested as once the entry limit has been reached, no other entries will be accepted. There will be spots left open for at-con registration and a waiting list but once both are full, no more entries will be accepted. There will be a check-in time period and you must visit the check-in table to confirm that you are present. You will also be given a judging time at this point so it is mandatory that you are at the designated check-in table within this time period. Those who show up in the earlier part of the check-in period will get priority to the judging times so it pays to show up on time. However, it is not suggested that you show up five hours early and wait to get the first spot. If you do not check-in within the time period then you will be disqualified and your spot will be given to someone else unless there are extenuating circumstances. You must show up to be judged (at the designated room) at the judging time that you are given. DO NOT BE LATE. Familiarize yourself with where the judging location is prior to your designated time so you do not get lost or sidetracked. You may have to wait a short time but we will try to keep judging durations within a set time period. For those participating in both the Masquerade and the Costume Contest: Judging for craftsmanship will still be on Friday, July 9th and Saturday, July 10th. You will be given a choice of judging time and day based on a first come, first serve basis. Entry Information
There will be three divisions:
If you are only entering a costume in the Costume Competition then you are required to do a walk-on during the Masquerade. This is a chance to show your costume off in front of the audience. (Please keep the walk-on times brief.) This does not apply to those entering in both events. Minors (those under 18 years of age) may not participate in the Masquerade unless given written permission by a legal guardian. Forms will be available both at the convention and are also linked here at the top of this section. Please bring the signed copy with you to registrtaion check-in if you are a minor. Each character must be from an anime, video game, comic, television series, sci-fi, or other Japanese/Asian source (such as j-rock and j-pop). If you are unsure if your costume falls in these categories, ask ahead of time. In order to participate in the Costume Competition, you MUST bring a reference picture (or two) with you. Color is preferred for comparison reasons. This can be a screen shot, art book picture, manga cover, etc. no video allowed as we have no way to play it. A picture of each of the front and back is best, but please make sure that you have at least one full length shot of the character. This is for the judges benefit, as well as your own, as they may not know what every detail of every character of every series / game / comic / etc. looks like. This is mandatory even for the most popular and recognizable of characters (yes, that means Naruto, Vash, etc). If you have trouble finding a reference, email the Cosplay Coordinator and we will try to help you in any way possible. If you would like your reference picture(s) returned, you may ask to pick them up at the end of the days judging time. Fan created / original characters are not allowed. Please do not enter costumes that were entered in previous Connecticon costume contests unless there has been some major changes done to them. Any Masquerade rules also pertain here (No nudity, no fireworks/explosives,etc.) Please be familiar with the rules. No commissioned/purchased costumes. This does not include costumes made by parents or friends. The only requirement if your costume was made by a family member (parent, aunt, grandparent, etc. ) it is preferable that they be there to answer any questions the judges may have. If your costume is made up of purchased clothing you may not enter it. The exception to that is if you have made some substantial changes or substantially altered the clothing somewhat (just altering a pant leg or a collar does not constitute substantial) Again, if there are questions, please ask. Be prepared to answer questions from the judges. They may range anywhere from what the most difficult part was to what materials you used. This is the reason it is important to have the costume creator present. Suggestion Time
